Family Matters Workshop
Love has the power to bring up all of our hidden desires, our deepest longings and our past hurts. Our family of origin serves as our original template for everything related to the way we love today. It is also here where we first learned about relationships and emotional expression: fear, anger, sadness and love. Our upbringing even determines the thoughts that we have about ourselves and provides us with examples of how to behave and what to expect from others in our lives. If, for example, you observed your parents fighting all the time, it will definitely influence how you navigate conflict in relationships. Constant yelling, criticism and disrespect may be so normal for you as well as the regular style of communication you use with your partner today. Or, perhaps you were taught that people shut each other out with conflict -never achieving any resolution- and now it is something to be avoided at all costs. Either way, the foundation for an unhealthy relationship has been set.
No family or human being is ever perfect. Whether we like it or not, most of us carry our family of origin influences with us throughout life. While looking back at problems from our families can be very difficult, doing so with the intent to improve your communication styles can truly make for a much healthier relationship. Both you and your partner can learn significantly more about yourselves and each other. Compassion and empathy is key to creating and maintaining a happy relationship. This workshop provides you with an opportunity to explore what you learned about life, love, and communication in your family of origin so that you can understand what you may have carried into your current relationship – for better and for worse. Unpacking your emotional baggage can ultimately give you the chance to address key issues and overcome painful patterns and help get you the love you want. Come and learn about:
